Meet Mrs. Hicks
My name is Cynthia Hicks. I am delighted to be your child’s first grade teacher. We will be sharing lots of information and ideas over the next ten months therefore, we will take this opportunity to get to know each other a little better. I would like to begin by telling you something about me.
I am married and we have four children. Our first three children are sons. They attended Wingate University, North Carolina A&T State University/Wake Forest University, and The College of William and Mary. This fall our third son will begin his PhD program in Neuro Science at NC State. Our youngest is a daughter and she will begin her senior year in college this fall at Winston-Salem State University as a nursing major. We are a sports family. I played tennis in college and my husband was a track and field phenomenon!!! Our sons have been involved in football, baseball, basketball, track, wrestling, and rugby. Our oldest son played football for Wingate University. Our middle son was a two time state qualifier in wrestling, and our youngest son played defensive end for The College of William and Mary. Our daughter ran track, was a cheerleader, and danced competitively.
I earned my BA degree from Berea College in Berea, Ky. My majors were Child Development and Psychology. I continued my collegiate studies at Eastern Kentucky University and received my MA degree in Elementary Education. In 2010 I earned National Board certification in Early Childhood Generalist. I am also a Charlotte Teachers Institute Scholar. I am currently coming to the end of my doctoral program at the University of Phoenix in Educational Leadership: Curriculum and Instruction.
I started my teaching career in West Virginia as a fifth grade teacher in very small school. After two years I moved to Charlotte, NC and began teaching kindergarten. Over the past thirty years I have taught kindergarten and first grade in CMS. I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to do something that I love and to have the opportunities to develop my craft as an educator.
